That was one extremely quick divorce! A lawyer for Katie Holmes has confirmed that she and Tom Cruise have already settled out of court and apparently Katie has been awarded sole custody of their daughter Suri.
It seems the couple have reached an agreement out of court, and it has been claimed that this was a decision on Tom's part to make sure the secrets behind Scientology aren't revealed in open court.
Katie's lawyer Jonathan Wolfe said: 'This case has been settled and the agreement has been signed. We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life.'
'We thank Tom's counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution'.
And according to sources the settlement will protect Suri in more ways than one. Not only does it state that Suri's nanny has to be with her when she is with Tom an insider added: 'Under terms of the settlement, Suri isn't permitted to be exposed to anything Scientology related and this includes going to any Scientology churches, parties, etc. Katie made sure that this was ironclad.'
And today Tom and Katie released a joint statement asking for privacy:
'We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents.'
In the meantime it has been reported that Katie fired Tom's adopted daughter Bella from her clothing line Holmes and Yang two months ago. Suggesting that Katie had been planning to disconnect from the family for a long time.
