Today marks the one year anniversary of Boyzone member Stephen Gately and while many remain in mourning, his family and husband have been rowing over the spreading of his ashes!
According to the Sunday Mirror, Gately's widowed husband Andrew Cowles did not attend the scattering ceremony today in Ireland because he wanted Stephen's ashes to be in London where the couple lived together.
A family source said:
"This falling out is the last thing Stephen would have wanted. As things stand, Andy isn't attending the scattering of the ashes. It's a great shame, but just one of those things.Stephen's mum and dad feel in their hearts they are doing the right thing by scattering his ashes in Dalkey. But Andy won't be making the trip over. There's just too much tension and ill-feeling around this. The family have invited him to attend. But they know [Stephen} wouldn't have wanted all this falling out and fussing. It's a great shame."
A spokesman for Stephen’s family announced that:
"Andrew has received at least half-a-dozen invitations to the ceremony. He hasn't responded to any of them."
I think it's really sad that a dark shadow is covering this already terrible tragedy. I really feel for Stephen's family and his husband Andrew.
R.I.P Stephen
